A photo from the water & a note from the van
Salt in my hair, seals in my business, just me and the sea having a word
Hi there
Just a short note from the road. I'm parked up with the kettle on, gear drying on the back of the van and the sea still on my skin. I’ve been thinking about how I want to share more of my world again, in a simple way. A few photos. A moment. No noise.
Each time I send one of these, it’ll be a few photos and a reflection, something honest from where I am, what’s unfolding creatively or personally, or just the occasional tangential ramble.
I’m trying to keep this simple. No deep edits. No overthinking. Just sharing a few frames and a small moment. Like catching a flicker of light or a feeling before it disappears.
Bobbing about with the Seals
The first image I want to share with you is a moment hiding behind the waves, capturing something mostly unseen by others, even surfers. I’ve been slowly working on a set of images for a friend's osteopathic studio. This morning, the light was shifting constantly above the surface, so I swam back in and grabbed my snorkel and mask. From the moment I put my head under, I knew only a dead battery would bring me back out.
There’s something about being out on the Scottish coast that always feels like you're not alone. That quiet sense of being seen, even if you can’t see who’s watching. Sure enough, a few seals appeared, curious but quick to vanish. Each time I turned to catch them, they’d already slipped back into the shadows.
Until next time,
Mike
